Craig Robertson is a Sunday Times bestselling author, and his debut novel, Random, was shortlisted for the CWA New Blood Dagger. His most recent novel, Murderabilia was longlisted for the UK’s top crime fiction awards, including Theakston’s Old Peculier Crime Novel of the Year 2017 and the McIlvanney Prize 2017. During his twenty-year career with a Scottish Sunday newspaper, Craig Robertson interviewed three recent prime ministers and reported on major stories including 9/11, the Dunblane school massacre, the Omagh car bombing, and the disappearance of Madeleine McCann.

Q. What is your motto or maxim?

A. Split infinitives wherever possible and always bet the four dog.

Q. If you could meet any historical character, who would it be and what would you say to him or her?

A. Jack the Ripper. "Okay Jack. Come on, who are you and what was that all about?"

Q. If you could be anywhere in the world right now, where would you choose to be?

A. On a hilltop overlooking Tuscany with a cold beer to be followed by a big glass of red.

A. Missed minutes that could have been better spent.

I’m trying to play this as cool as possible while desperately attempting an air of casual indifference. But failing. Badly.
On Friday July 23, the shortlist for the 2010 CWA John Creasey (New Blood) Dagger was announced and, whether by error or design, my name was there. I did a little jig in the manner of Riverdance (the post-Flatley years naturally) and then quickly looked around to make sure no-one had noticed.
I suspect, like the other seven writers who have been shortlisted, that getting a book published was itself the realisation of a dream and anything that comes after that really is a bonus. So I’m taking this for what it... see more

Like many authors, I have a blog that I try to keep up to date when time allows. Which hasn't been much of late as a deadline for finishing a new book looms uncomfortably on the horizon.

The title of the blog - Blood and Irony - has never been more apposite, or indeed more ironic, than in the past few days.
