MARY MATALIN TO LAUNCH NEW PUBLISHING IMPRINT WITH
The imprint, as yet unnamed, plans to develop and publish from six to ten books per year beginning in 2006. While most of the titles will have a topical bent that is consistent with Ms. Matalin's well-known conservative views, the imprint will be open to books in categories ranging from politics, history and media to faith, values and cultural issues. The imprint is being created with Simon & Schuster, Inc., and will be jointly managed by Executive Vice President and Publisher of Simon & Schuster, David Rosenthal, and the Executive Vice President and Publisher of Pocket Books, Louise Burke. The joint resources of S&S and Pocket will support it. Matalin, who will be working primarily out of her Washington, D.C. offices, said about the new venture: "The unstoppable quest for human and economic liberty is remaking the world, literally before our eyes. The conservative champions of these values are ushering in an era of unprecedented progress, transforming domestic and global politics and policies in the 21st century. The mission of the imprint is to chronicle these historic reforms; to provide a forum for the creative people, bedrock principles and innovative ideas of contemporary conservatism. I am very grateful to S&S for including me in their effort to showcase conservative history makers." Rosenthal commented: "Mary has been at the very epicenter of politics and government in our time, and we believe she will be a magnet for attracting some of the freshest and most provocative books." Burke said, "I couldn't be happier to have the opportunity to launch a line of books that will resonate with the great many readers who clearly want to explore their ideas about current affairs and the direction for America's future. Mary Matalin is the perfect person to shape this list and be a conduit to both the source and the audience for these titles." Reidy commented: "I am thrilled to have Mary Matalin join our publishing group. A diversity of ideas is the hallmark of a robust publishing program, which we look forward to pursuing energetically at this new imprint as well as our other imprints." Mary Matalin has served as assistant to President George W. Bush and counselor to Vice President Dick Cheney. She hosted CNN's "Crossfire," was a founding cohost of "Equal Time," and starred in Steven Soderbergh and George Clooney's "K Street." She is the coauthor, with her husband, James Carville, of the bestselling All's Fair: Love, War, and Running for President, and the author of Letters to My Daughters, a wide-ranging book of motherly wisdom about what truly matters in life.
