A luxury omnibus of classic supernatural war stories from the Golden Age of comics - expanded and updated in a definitive edition.

Buried deep underground are the remains of Wehrmacht soldier, Hans Schmitt, and his diary, which journals his eerie encounter with the Romanian Captain Constanta and his platoon of blood-sucking freaks! Back in 1943, with the Russians willing to fight until their last man in order to defend Stalingrad, Panzergrenadier Richter discovers Constanta’s secret and learns than sometimes your allies can be just as dangerous as the enemy!

Featuring the breathtaking art of Carlos Ezquerra (Judge Dredd) and Colin MacNeil (America, Chopper: Song of the Surfer), with stories from Gerry Finley Day (Rogue Trooper), David Bishop (Thrill-Power Overload), and recent classics from Ian Edginton (Stickleback, Scarlet Traces), Dave Kendall (Fall of Deadworld).

About The Authors

One of the most prolific writers in the comic’s history, Gerry Finley-Day holds a special place in many 2000 AD fans’ hearts as the creator of classics like Rogue Trooper, Fiends of the Eastern Front and The V.C.s, as well as Harry 20 on the High Rock and Ant Wars. A keen “ideas man”, Finley-Day’s concepts of the horrors future warfare had in store were key to both Rogue and The V.C.s’ continuing popularity, ensuring that their recent return to the Galaxy’s Greatest Comic was well-received. Finley-Day also scripted episodes of Judge Dredd and Dan Dare, and co-scripted much of Invasion! (and entirely scripted the prequel story, ‘Disaster 1990!’).

David Bishop is a respected author and Editor. Formerly the editor of UK comic 2000 AD, Bishop has written many successful novels and comic stories.

Ian Edginton is a New York Times bestselling author and multiple Eisner Award nominee. He is currently writing Batman’66 meets The Avengers (Steed and Mrs Peel, not the other ones!) for DC Comics as well as Judge Dredd, Stickleback, Helium, Kingmaker and Brass Sun for 2000 AD. He lives and works in Birmingham, England.

Guy Adams lives with genius and writer A.K. Benedict in Rochester, Kent. He’s the author of the Heaven’s Gate trilogy of weird westerns, the Clown Service books and the Deadbeat novels. He’s written countless hours of audio drama for Big Finish, from a wide range of Doctor Who titles to an adaptation of HG Wells’ The Shape of Things to Come and the original horror series Blind Terror: The Gods of Frost. In comics he writes Rogue Trooper, Ulysses Sweet: Maniac for Hire and Max Normal for 2000 AD. With his comics husband, Jimmy Broxton, he is the co-creator of Goldtiger, the sixties newspaper strip that never existed... until now.

Hannah Berry is an award-winning graphic novelist, comics creator, scriptwriter, illustrator and campaigner. She is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature and was appointed UK Comics Laureate 2019-21. Editions of her books have been published in the USA, France, Holland, Serbia and Italy, while her artwork has been exhibited in solo and collective exhibitions worldwide. Berry’s first graphic novel BRITTEN & BRÜLIGHTLY was published by Jonathan Cape in 2008, with the French edition chosen for the OFFICIAL SELECTION of the 2010 Angoulême International Comics Festival. Her second graphic novel ADAMTINE was published in 2012 and her third, LIVESTOCK, in 2017, both by Jonathan Cape to some critical acclaim. LIVESTOCK won Berry a BEST WRITER AWARD at the 2017 Broken Frontier Awards and was nominated in the BEST GRAPHIC NOVEL category. She has contributed comics to anthologies and publications from 2000AD to the New England Journal of Medicine, was a cartoonist for New Statesman and Prospect Magazine, and wrote several episodes of the multi-award-winning podcast THE REZ.

About The Illustrators

Carlos Ezquerra was the co-creator of Judge Dredd, Strontium Dog, Rat Pack, Major Eazy and many other fan-favourite characters, he designed the classic original Dredd costume as well as visually conceptualising Mega-City One. In addition to these credits he also illustrated A.B.C. Warriors, Judge Anderson, Tharg the Mighty, and Cursed Earth Koburn amongst many other stories. Outside of the ‘Galaxy’s Greatest Comic’, Ezquerra illustrated the first Third World War episodes in Crisis magazine, and became a regular collaborator with Garth Ennis, working on Adventures in the Rifle Brigade, Bloody Mary, Just a Pilgrim, Condors, The Magnificent Kevin and two special Preacher episodes. He died in 2018 but his profound influence on the world of comic art cannot be overstated.

Since joining 2000 AD in 1986 Colin MacNeil has worked on many strips, including Chopper: Song of the Surfer and the infamous death of Johnny Alpha in Strontium Dog: The Final Solution. He went on to collaborate with John Wagner on the award-winning America for the Judge Dredd Megazine. He has also worked on Shimura, Maelstrom and Fiends of the Eastern Front: Stalingrad, and, outside of the Galaxy’s Greatest Comic, provided the atmospheric artwork on Bloodquest for Games Workshop. He also enjoys creating large abstract paintings. He says it’s art therapy!

As well as being responsible for the morbid reimagining of the Dark Judges and their world as co-creator of The Fall of Deadworld, Dave Kendall has lent his visionary artistic talents to 2000 AD with several one-off stories. He was also the artist of Psycho Killer for Toxic! and has worked extensively as a fantasy illustrator for clients including Games Workshop and Wizards of the Coast.

DaNi was born in Athens, Greece in 1992 and studied sculpture in Athens School of Fine Arts. She began to produce a self-published series called Tales from the Strips that won the Reader’s Choice Award at the Greek Comics Awards in 2015, before working on some 2000 AD strips including Fiends of the Eastern Front and Judge Anderson and on Rebellion's Scream! & Misty and Tammy & Jinty specials. Soon she was on the radar of the US industry, picking up work from IDW on Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency. More recently she has worked on the DC VERTIGO titles Sandman-The Dreaming, DC HILL HOUSE COMICS and on the Image comics series Coffin Bound.

Dave Taylor began drawing comics professionally for Marvel UK after many failed attempts at being a rock star drummer. He was head hunted by DC to work on a Batman one shot with Grendel writer/artist Matt Wagner, going on to work predominantly on Batman titles such as Batman: Shadow of the Bat (with Alan Grant), Detective Comics, Batman: Black and White and others. His collaboration with graphic designer extraordinaire Chip Kidd on Batman: Death by Design became a New York Times best seller (twice). Taylor's acclaimed adult only series Tongue Lash grew from his friendship with French comic Master Jean Moebius Giraud, who Taylor also worked with on an Arzak story. He has also produced work for TV, movies and the games industry and is presently employed by the United States Space Force as an extraterrestrial translator.
