About The Book

Political journalists Ryan Lizza and Olivia Nuzzi provide a colorful behind-the-scenes account of the 2020 presidential campaign.

As soon as the shocking results of Election Day 2016 came in, Americans began looking ahead to 2020, the election that would serve as a national referendum on our new political reality. Already poised to be one of the most consequential presidential elections in modern history, the 2020 race is now unfolding against one of the most disruptive periods in memory. Thrust into a pandemic with a staggering toll on human lives and the economy, America has never seen higher stakes for an election. The dramatic milestones, missteps, and triumphs in this race will have greater consequences than ever for America’s future, and there is no better pair to capture this critical moment than star journalists Ryan Lizza and Olivia Nuzzi.

As Politico’s Chief Washington Correspondent, Ryan Lizza has covered every presidency since Clinton for The New Republic, New York magazine, The New York Times, and The Atlantic. Brian Williams once referred to him as “required reading” for those interested in politics; The Washingtonian described him as a writer who “changes the way readers see the world.” Olivia Nuzzi, Chief Washington Correspondent for New York magazine, was named by Politico one of the “16 Breakout Media Stars” of the 2016 election, and to the Forbes “30 Under 30” list. She is admired—and often feared—by Trump’s inner circle and extended orbit of conservative advisers. Together, Lizza and Nuzzi’s combination of veteran experience and fresh perspective masterfully convey the significance of 2020’s momentous political and social upheaval in this turbocharged chronicle of the 2020 presidential campaign, taking us on a rollicking rollercoaster ride through an election year roiled by one shocking curveball after another.
