Q. What is your motto or maxim?

A. Get it right. I'm always hyper-aware that I'm helping readers make choices about their money--I spend my time checking and rechecking, to be sure that what I'm saying is right.

Q. What is your favorite occupation, when you’re not writing?

A. Reading in my hammock on a summer day.

Q. How would you describe perfect happiness?

A. It's a weekend morning. I wake up late. My husband brings me cocoa. We read the papers in bed. I may nap again. We have lunch, take a walk in Central Park and go to the museum. We meet friends, or our New York-based kids, for dinner and a movie. We go to bed early. Bliss.

Q. If you could be anywhere in the world right now, where would you choose to be?

A. In New York City, where I live. It's a wonderful town.

Q. What’s your fantasy profession?

A. A diva--singing Violetta at the Metropolitan Opera. Or conducting it--that would work, too.
