About The Book

“Entertaining, goofy illustrations, quick reviews of equivalent and simplified fractions, and a few practice problems effectively round out this fun refresher.” —Booklist

Raves and Reviews

This comic-inspired picture book spends a lot of time on satisfying silliness and a comparatively small amount on actual math, helping this fraction reinforcement lesson go down nice and easy. Goat insists he knows how to divide a hexagonal birthday cake evenly between himself and his two friends, Chicken and Sheep. He enthusiastically plunges right in, cutting the cake in half, and is immediately stymied. After being reminded of a couple of other recent disastrous decisions (giving some foxes the keys to the henhouse so they could tidy up; putting roller skates on the horses to save wear and tear on their hooves), Goat admits he may need some help. Sheep steps in to save the day and models how to make two more cuts to produce three equal pieces. The three friends sit down to enjoy their cake when Farmer Ed shows up with another dessert—a triangular piece of cake. Entertaining, goofy illustrations, quick reviews of equivalent and simplified fractions, and a few practice problems effectively round out this fun refresher.
