Zaida Hernandez is a space engineer, author, and the founder of The Space Latina. Growing up, she always had a fascination with space—stars, planets, and the unknown! Today, she shares that passion through her Lil’ Libros STEAM titles, My First Space Words in English & Spanish and Luz Lucero, niña astronauta, as well as through speaking and mentorship. A mom to a young space enthusiast, Zaida loves to inspire the next generation of bilingual scientists, engineers, and explorers. She currently works as an engineer at NASA. 

Karla Monterrosa was born and raised in sunny San Salvador, El Salvador. She’s an illustrator and animator on a mission to draw a world in which it’s okay to feel awkward. Karla graduated from Emily Carr University of Art + Design with a BFA in Animation in 2013 and currently lives in the unceded, ancestral lands of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Thleil-Watuth nations, also known as Vancouver, BC. She is the illustrator behind Lil’ Libros’ picture books Luz Lucero, niña astronauta and Yefferson, Actually / En realidad, es Yefferson.
