About The Book

Social media star and mental health advocate Chris Olsen revisits his childhood trauma, addiction, and the road to recovery in this brutally honest, genuine, and often funny memoir in the vein of Furiously Happy and Miss Memory Lane.

Growing up, Chris Olsen believed his family was perfect. But at thirteen, his mundane life began to unravel when his mother admitted that she was an alcoholic, revealing hidden battles that profoundly impacted their family dynamic.

Now, seeking to reclaim a narrative he never felt was truly his, Olsen explores his journey from a contented childhood to an adolescence and adulthood marked by trauma, resilience, and self-discovery. Structured around sessions with his therapist, Lizzie, he revisits moments that defined who he is today—hiding his sexual identity from friends, grappling with his parents’ divorce, navigating toxic relationships, watching his mom go from rehab facility to rehab facility before following in her footsteps, and more.

With the same biting wit, emotional vulnerability, and penchant for humor that made him a runaway social media success, Olsen shares his full story for the first time—a life marked by heartache, perseverance, and the pursuit of healing. I Think My Therapist Hates Me is a powerful testament to the strength it takes to face your past, embrace your truth, and rediscover yourself, resonating deeply with anyone craving unflinching authenticity and the inspiration to do the same.

"I wish my younger self had this book while I was navigating queerness, mental health, and my relationship to the internet. I’m so glad my adult self has this book to help me realize there’s other people navigating it. I Think My Therapist Hates Me is the best type of read: Messy, wild, and worth it.” -Dylan Mulvaney, actress and content creator

“If you love Chris Olsen on social media, you’ll fall even harder for him in I Think My Therapist Hates Me. At his most vulnerable yet, Olsen proves he’s more than a content creator—he’s a genuine storyteller. I grieved, laughed, cried, and celebrated right alongside him. His striking vulnerability and signature wit translate seamlessly to the page, and this memoir solidifies him as a true multi-hyphenate talent. A must-read for anyone navigating mental health, isolation, and simply trying to find their footing in the world”- Eli Rallo, New York Times bestselling author
