About The Book

Join Alvin, the intrepid underwater submersible that helped scientists visit and study the wreck of the Titanic, as it travels into the depths of the ocean and explores hydrothermal vents in the deep in this nonfiction picture book in collaboration with the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution.

Descend to the deep sea in the famous submersible Alvin! This remarkable sub was the first human-operated vehicle to explore the wreck of the Titanic, taking some of the clearest photos of the iconic sunken vessel. As readers journey thousands of feet beneath the waves alongside two scientists and a pilot, they’ll meet some of the weird and wonderful creatures that call the ocean home, as well as explore hyperthermic vents. In collaboration with the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, which operates Alvin, this nonfiction picture book for kids ages 5 and up is based on Alvin’s real, remarkable expeditions.

FAMOUS SUB: Alvin was the first human-operated sub to explore the sunken Titanic, its first expedition in 1986, as well as took some of the most iconic photos of the vessel. Since, it has made more than 5,000 dives over the last five decades.
