About The Book

From debut author Alice Cardini comes the first novel in a brand-new middle-grade series about family, friendship, and the meaning of home—along with lots and lots of dogs.

Twelve-year-old Cat Parker knows 340 dog breeds by heart—but she's never been allowed a dog of her own. So, when her dad abandons the family and her mom uproots them from New York to London, Cat decides to take control of her life and start a dog-walking business. She's determined to become the city's top dog walker. Besides, dogs are loyal––unlike people. How hard can it be?

Soon Cat is juggling tangled leashes, runaway beagles, British slang, and street names that don't make sense. And when she meets a mysterious neighbor with a secret of his own, things get even more complicated—until one particular pup changes everything.

Featuring a mix of Cat’s doodles in her "Word Catcher Diary" and beautiful black-and-white illustrations from fan-favorite Jen Bricking, Alice Cardini's energetic debut is sure to please dog lovers and anyone who’s ever had to start over somewhere new.
