About The Book

A life-altering tragedy shatters a young woman’s future—but through relentless faith, fierce love, and an unyielding community, she discovers that survival is only the beginning.

When a joyful, independent twenty-three-year-old heads to a summer baseball game with her family, no one imagines it will become the dividing line between before and after. In an instant, Sophie Hardin collapses from a catastrophic brain hemorrhage, and everything changes: her future, her independence, and the life her family thought they knew.

The Girl Who Stayed is a powerful true story of survival, told through the intertwined voices of a daughter learning to live again and a mother holding fast to faith when hope feels fragile. From emergency surgery to the long and grueling road of rehabilitation, Sophie’s journey is marked by loss, resilience, and unexpected grace.

But this is more than a story of survival. It’s a story of what holds when everything else falls apart. Surrounded by a community that refuses to let go and sustained by a faith that endures through unanswered questions, Sophie and her family discover that even in the darkest valleys, they are not alone.

In these pages, readers will find:
  • Hope in the face of sudden, life-altering crisis
  • A deeply personal picture of faith tested by suffering
  • Encouragement for navigating loss, identity shifts, and long recoveries
  • A moving example of the power of prayer and community support
  • Inspiration to persevere when the future feels uncertain

Honest, emotional, and ultimately hope-filled, The Girl Who Stayed is a testament to resilience, redemption, and the kind of faith that carries you through . . . even when life is forever changed.
