About The Author

Dr. Douglas Mader acquired his MS, DVM, and residency in primate and zoo animal medicine from the University of California, Davis. He is the consulting veterinarian for the Monroe County Sheriff’s Animal Farm the Key West Aquarium, the Key West Butterfly Conservancy, the Sea Turtle Hospital, the Everglades Alligator Farm and the National Key Deer Refuge. Dr. Mader is an internationally acclaimed lecturer and is on the review boards of several scientific journals. His many awards include the US Fish and Wildlife Conservation award, the Fredric L. Frye Lifetime Achievement Award in Veterinary Medicine, the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine Alumni Achievement Award, and the UC Davis Lifetime Achievement Award. He has published numerous articles in scientific journals, newspapers, and magazines, and is the author of three veterinary textbooks. Dr. Mader’s last book—his first for the general audience—is the award-winning, bestselling The Vet at Noah’s Ark: Stories of Survival from an Inner-city Animal Hospital.  After a decade of living in the big city, he and his animal family have settled down on a small island in the Conch Republic.
