Timothy Hampton holds the Aldo Scaglione and Marie M. Burns Distinguished Professorship in the Department of Comparative Literature at the University of California, Berkeley, and is the former director of the Townsend Humanities Center. An award-winning teacher and scholar, his books include Fictions of Embassy: Literature and Diplomacy in Early Modern Europe; Bob Dylan: How the Songs Work; and Cheerfulness: A Literary and Cultural History.
